Vertigo & Dizziness Rehab in Orland Park & Westmont

What Is Vestibular Rehabilitation?

Vestibular rehabilitation is a specialized, exercise-based therapy for dizziness, vertigo and imbalance caused by inner ear (vestibular) problems. Depending on your evaluation, treatment may include canalith repositioning maneuvers for BPPV (positional vertigo), gaze stabilization exercises, habituation exercises that reduce motion sensitivity, and balance and walking training to lower your risk of falls.

What the Research Shows

A 2015 Cochrane systematic review of 39 randomized controlled trials involving more than 2,400 adults (McDonnell and Hillier) found moderate to strong evidence that vestibular rehabilitation reduces dizziness and improves daily function in people with inner ear balance disorders, with benefits lasting 3 to 12 months and no reported adverse effects. For BPPV specifically, repositioning maneuvers gave faster short-term relief, which is why we use both approaches.

Why Choose Paragon for Dizziness and Vertigo

Your 45-minute, one-on-one visit gives us time for a thorough vestibular evaluation, including positional testing, eye movement and balance assessment, so we can find the cause instead of just treating symptoms. If testing points to BPPV, we can often perform repositioning maneuvers at your first visit. Our team also has extensive experience with balance training and fall prevention for older adults, and we communicate with your physician if anything needs medical follow-up.

Vertigo & Dizziness FAQs

Have another question about dizziness or vertigo? Call (708) 645-4340 or email admin@paragon-pt.com.

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common causes of vertigo. Tiny calcium crystals in the inner ear move out of place and cause brief spinning when you roll over in bed, look up or bend down. It is usually treated with gentle repositioning maneuvers that guide the crystals back where they belong.

It depends on the cause. Many people with BPPV feel significantly better within a few visits, while recovery from vestibular neuritis, concussion or long-standing dizziness usually involves a progressive exercise program over several weeks. Your therapist will give you an estimate after your evaluation.

Call 911 for sudden, severe dizziness with a new severe headache, weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, double vision, fainting or chest pain, since these can signal a medical emergency. For new or ongoing dizziness without these warning signs, we can evaluate you and coordinate with your physician.

We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicare (not Medicare Advantage) and offer competitive cash rates. Whether you need a prescription depends on your plan, so call (708) 645-4340 and we will verify your benefits for free before your first visit.
